According to Political Scientist, Dr. Dion George, a legitimate government is one that has the support and confidence of its constituents and is chosen by those same citizens. He does, however, point out that the existing administration is now seen as a minority regime, because of low voter turnout and reduced votes. Dr George elaborated on some of the questions raised about the legitimacy of this DLP regime, which came about as a result of the recent snap general election. He went on to discuss several important problems that political and governmental institutions face, that hinder development. Political Scientist, Dr. Dion George.
Kent Vital, the chairman of the National Joint Action Movement (NJAM), predicted that Dominica would have a difficult year in terms of democracy because it is clear that the DLP Regime has broken its promise to the country's citizens, to implement electoral reform in order to hold free and fair elections. He added that they have lied to the people before, and they will lie to them again, if given the opportunity. Vital added that he had personally made the decision to have a realistic outlook for the coming year, and that even though 2023 would be a difficult year for the economy and the people's democracy, people should not give up hope for better days ahead, with a different government in office. Jolly's Pharmacy's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Carlton Languedoc, made the announcement that the carnival celebrations had forced the postponement of the January 5K race until March 18, 2023. Additionally, he stated that the purpose of the race is to raise money for humanitarian organizations to fight several CNCDs on the island, including lupus. Jolly's Pharmacy's PRO, Carlton Languedoc.
According to Sheridan Gregoire, host of the Global View on Q, in the past 22 years, the public sector has not produced anything novel or original; instead, it has simply seized every chance and endeavor to try and take over tasks that the private sector is better suited to perform. He points out that the public sector's bureaucracy does not permit the same degree of flexibility in efficient decision-making. He says fundamental components make up the decision-making process in the public sector, including environment, goals and standards. He added that the decision-maker in the public sector adheres to recognizable procedures in light of these three notions. In response to a remark, he emphasized the importance of requesting particular credentials from candidates before voters cast their ballots. He notes that the present health minister, for example, is not a physician or a management expert, and asks "How does that work out?". Sheridan Gregoire (Mr G), host of Q95’s Global View on Q.
Dr. Thomson Fontaine, UWP political leader notes that many unusual occurrences take place in Dominica. He says one illustration of this would be that the cabinet of ministers includes two licensed physicians, but neither one is charged with the responsibility of the ministry of health. He continued by expanding on his theory that many people donot really understand the role that a government should play. He noted that, this is a result of government activities that have been at odds with what the average person believes are the genuine functions of government. Dr Fontaine elaborated on how the government's functions should affect the welfare of the population. Political leader of the UWP, Dr. Thomson Fontaine.
According to Kent Vital, Chairman of the National Joint Action Movement (NJAM), Dominica's agricultural sector has been at its weakest in years, and the DLP Regime hasnot put forward any policies that would suggest a turnaround in the sector's development in 2023, which leads him to predict from an economic standpoint, that farmers in the country will face numerous difficulties in 2023. Vital added that he also anticipates that the tourism sector will advance a little bit more in 2023, and that Citizenship by Investment (CBI) will likely be discontinued because so many projects that were supposed to be funded by the program have stagnated. National Joint Action Movement (NJAM), Chairman, Kent Vital.
Jolly's Health Vibes Program host Carlton Languedoc suggested that everyone as individuals needs to reflect a little more deeply on who they actually are, and their genuine purpose in life, or more specifically, what qualifies them to be brought to this planet by God. He says everyone has a particular purpose or goal in life, but the most important thing is for each person to be aware of that purpose. Jolly's Health Vibes Program host, Carlton Languedoc.
According to the political leader of the UWP, Dr. Thomson Fontaine, the current era will go down in history as the "lost decades for Dominica," lost in the sense that the country lost so much relative to its previous forward progress. He observed that Dominica has now either reversed or obliterated things that were once moving in the right direction. He contends that this is mostly due to an incompetent government that shows little to no concern for the welfare of the nation's citizens. The fact that 15,000 people still went to the polls in a sham snap general election and endorsed this DLP regime is, in Fontaine's opinion, a tremendous mystery. Political Leader of the UWP, Dr. Thomson Fontaine.
According to Bernard Hurtault, leader of the Dominica Freedom Party, this DLP Regime is not the least bit innovative. He contends that it neither propels nor fosters an environment that is conducive to a creative society. Why are we so reliant on foreign energy, questions Hurtault? Why don't we already have campaigns and rewards to encourage people to use Dominican hydrogen, ethanol, and other natural sources to fuel their vehicles? He added that this regime has done nothing innovative and has created no new industries or companies. Hurtault noted that the productive core of Dominica is completely gutted, and the only thing keeping the country from drowning is a few dollars floating around in the economy, from the sale of passports. Leader of the Dominica Freedom Party, Bernard Hurtault.
