DAIC President Kenneth Green cries foul on DLP Government’s rushed announcement of a public holiday tomorrow Thursday, although he is pleased about the idea of a thanksgiving event planned for Thursday. Green is pleased about the praise & thanksgiving event planned by the government, however he says categorically the way in which the announcement of a holiday was rushed, is confusing & disappointing. Dominica’s President Charles Savarin and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced that September 19 would be deemed a holiday to commemorate the passing of Hurricane Maria on September 18, 2017, which took the lives of several Dominicans. However, this decision to make the day a public holiday came after the fact that the Prime Minister had initially announced a half day of work for public officers on that day. Speaking to Q95 FM on 18th September 2019, Green explained his position on the issue, as a number of private sector groupings and business owners are upset about the manner in which Prime Minister Skerrit had imposed his decision on the private sector.
