The Dominica Chess Federation is encouraging individuals to learn the game so that chess can expand and spread throughout the island.Though there are levels to the game of chess, according to Lyndon Auguiste, Vice President of the Chess Federation, it is simple to learn and he wants to encourage everyone, especially young people, since they understand the influence, it can have on the community. Mr. Auguiste went on to say that the federation has planned the island's first-ever national chess tournament and is asking for people to participate and study the game so that they may hold qualifiers and see who can win Dominica's first-ever official chess championship title. Mr. Auguiste believes that people need to understand that chess is a highly competitive game that is recognized as a sport by the International Olympic Committee, and that it attracts individuals from all walks of life.
