Dominica has potential to venture into multiple avenues of renewable energy says Crispin Gregoire4/13/2018 Former UN Ambassador Crispin Gregoire says Dominica does not need to focus on just one source of renewable energy. The country can explore many sources, because it has the natural resources available to do so. He was speaking on the Weekly Program ‘The Global View’ on Thursday, on the Topic “Renewable Energy Options in Dominica: Past, Present, and Future”. The other panellists in the discussion included Dr Thomson Fontaine as Moderator, and Washway Douglas. Some of the sub themes discussed by the panellists included, Accounting for government spending under various initiatives; Where should the country focus its efforts?; Which are the preferred options for Dominica and why; Is such a renewable policy central to developing a climate resilient economy?; Is existing legislation adequate to allow for generation and distribution of energy from sources other than DOMLEC?; Which energy sources should we consider for Dominica; Options for investments in Renewable Energy; Role for Environmental Impact Assessment studies; Can Dominica succeed with a small plant solely for its internal consumption? Mr Gregoire said the 60’s hydro energy system ways replaced to a large extent by diesel, and Dominica been using diesel ever since, but there is a critical need to reverse that situation.
