General Secretary of the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) Thomas Letang noted Prime Minister Skerrit’s attempt to diffuse the unions call for a major rally and his efforts to influence junior public officers. Letang describes it as a political gimmick.
Skerrit says that he will be meeting with a wide range of public servants over the next few days to better understand and listen to their issues.
In his meeting with the Junior Clerks yesterday, Skerrit said the government has before them, proposals to construct a new government headquarters on High Street. He added that preliminary designs will be presented to public officers, and will include a gym and other facilities.
Letang addressed the nation and said these statements by the prime minister are obviously being made for political expediency.
Letang elaborated on what he considers to be the most pragmatic and diplomatic option or choice to made by the Government, if indeed their intentions are to address the issues being voiced by Public officers.
