The Dominica Social Security (DSS) says 2019 will see an increase in benefits offered to contributors. Speaking on a local radio program Thursday, Deputy Director of the Dominica Social Security Augustus Etienne says every three years the system is subject to an evaluation to determine the status of the fund, whereby the actuaries make recommendations for necessary changes. He says this is to ensure sustainability in the long run and to ensure the relevance of the benefits being paid. This year there will be an increase in the funeral grant to $3,000 in the case of the death of an insured person, $2,500 for an uninsured spouse, and $1,250 in the case of a dependent child. Meantime, as of March 2019 pensions which took effect by the end of year 2017 will benefit from a cost of living adjustment as reimbursement for the lost purchasing power due to inflation.
