International Fund for Animal Welfare Disaster Response Manager explains IFAW purpose in Dominica3/22/2018 Manager for Disaster Response with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) Shannon Walajtys has explained her organization’s purpose in working with the Forestry Division in Dominica, post Hurricane Maria. This, in the wake of the recent export of 10 Jacko Parrots and two Sisserou parrots. According to Walajtys her team was specifically contacted to provide expertise to assess and support the rehabilitation of rescued parrots which were injured after the storm. While speaking to Q95’s Hot Seat show on Thursday, Walajtys added that the condition of Dominica’s facility which housed the Sisserou parrots, were not designed to rehabilitate animals, which forced IFAW to create the necessary environment for animal care. Meantime, Walajtys said she was shocked when upon her team’s return to Dominica, the parrots were gone from the Avery, hinting this was done without their knowledge. On Thursday, Walajtys laughed nervously to the fact that the birds were exported on Saturday, for Captive Breeding in Germany. Stating, She said the birds showed promising signs of recovery under IFAW’s care. Manager for Disaster Response with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) Shannon Walajtys
