Photo: DA Vibes Eight (8) students graduated from the Orion Academy on Tuesday 27th June 2017, at a ceremony held at the Dominica State College Auditorium in Stockfarm, under the theme ‘Strength in Diversity’.
The graduating class was reminded that there is strength in diversity. That reminder came from featured speaker Dione Green. The graduates were Loushema Lott-Coakley, Ethanyahu Benjamin, Alice Carlton, Jamie Joseph, Tareq Mansour, Lisa-Marie Lawrence, Mohammed Dante Richards, and Louis Riviere. Green told the graduates diversity “is just another way to be stronger’, and that was evidenced by his example and personal experience, having only recently returned to Dominica from France, where he underwent rehabilitation for his new prosthetic legs. He had been a double amputee for over sixteen (16) years as a result of an accident. Louis Riviere, who was named Valedictorian, received awards for Spanish, English, Literature, Social Studies, Chemistry, Biology & Physics. He shared the subject awards for Principles of Business and Internet Technology with Lisa Marie Lawrence. Lisa-Marie Lawrence also obtained the subject prizes for Mathematics and French. Ethanyahu Benjamin received the award for Principles of Accounts, and Lou-shema Lott-Coakley received an award for exemplifying Orion’s motto. Riviere told her peers, “The true meaning of tonight’s theme is found in the culture of the class, and the variety of differences that make each of us an individual. These differences are manifested in the range of ideologies, beliefs, faiths, and outlooks that can be found among us”.
