Police Corporal Mervin Adams was granted bail of EC$15,000 after he was arrested & charged with theft, but his attorney Julien Prevost questions the double standards surrounding the handling of that matter. Corporal Adams appeared before magistrate Asquith Riviere today August 1, 2019 where the charge was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea since the matter is an indictable one. According to court documents, between January 9, 2014 & June 14, 2018, Corporal Adams is alleged to have stolen EC$32,797.80 while stationed at the Wesley Police Station. As part of his bail conditions, he was required to surrender all his travel documents& report to the Portsmouth Police Station every Wednesday between 7am & 7pm. Adams is forbidden to change his address without notifying the court 72 hours in advance, and he must obtain permission from the court if he is to travel. Freelance Journalist Carlisle Joseph presented an interview he conducted today with Attorney at Law Julian Prevost, who is representing Corporal Mervin Adams on the charge of theft at the high court in Roseau. In the interview which was broadcasted on Q95 FM radio, Prevost expressed his disappointment in the fact that he represented Police Officer Cleville Mills on a similar charge of theft, and Mills was brought before a Tribunal of the Dominica Police Force, and was asked to simply repay the $30,000 dollars which was allegedly unaccounted for. Mills subsequently prevailed in an Appeals Court and was exonerated. Attorney Prevost says this case should have been dealt with similarly, without prejudice, as is clearly the case with Corporal Mervin Adams. Attorney at Law, Julian Prevost
