According to Steve Joseph, President of the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU), those who value Mother Dominica cannot let politicians depress them. He believes that a more organized effort is required to determine the future of Dominica’s development, and that task cannot be left solely to the politicians to get done, particularly when emphasizing the contributions made by our forefathers to our existence. He was speaking on the DPSU Program Wednesday evening. Joseph said for instance, if one discussed the labor conflicts of the 1970s, names of individuals who were in the foreground would be stressed rather than those who were in the background. He mentions some of the technological and infrastructure improvements that have been made inside society, but the real query is: Are we more productive or efficient? He thinks back to earlier national efficiency monitoring systems, which seemed to indicate increased productivity. Joseph questions whether we are properly utilizing our time and resources, emphasizing that despite the fact that life has become simpler, our productivity has not increased as it has in previous years.
