The Court has struck out a theft case involving a former NCCU staff member for want of prosecution5/24/2018 In 2015, the police alleged that Dwight Timothy had stolen an amount of money from the i National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU), and he was arrested and charged with theft. But the matter was adjourned a number of times and the Roseau Magistrate’s Court has now struck out the case for want of prosecution.
A statement from the Magistrate’s Court reads, “The Court believes the request for further adjournment is not justifiable in all the circumstances of this case, and it would be unfair and unjust to subject the accused to any further anguish through another adjournment. Consequently, the matter was struck out for want of prosecution. The accused is therefore discharged, and the terms of his bail are lifted.” Timothy said the accusation had made him a victim of cyberbullying, and defamation of character, and he has suffered health issues as a result. He said, “I feel obliged to let my well-wishers know that through constant family support, countless counseling, mentoring, and faith in God, I was able to persevere despite negative publicity and constant harassment”. He stated that he had lost a chance for an international scholarship to pursue a Masters’ Degree in Finance. He added that he lost my credibility in the financial world and at his university.” He added. “Though this ordeal hindered my progress, I was still able to maintain my mental health throughout. I completed my final semester of my dual bachelors in banking and finance and attended his 2016 graduation in St Kitts.” Timothy noted that whereas his relationship with the NCCU ended on a sour note, if these unfortunate alleged accusations had not occurred, his career within that institution would have blossomed. He acknowledged that the institution gave him an opportunity to build a foundation in his field of study and also assisted his public speaking, sales and marketing skills, but says he was not prepared for the allegations which still seem like a bad dream.
