We can’t continue to follow or emulate the total linear western capital model thinking, and expect it to work within our cultural settings without negative impacts, says attorney at law and executive member of the reparations committee Henry Shillingford. Mr Shillingford is of the view that such thinking is what is referred to as the ‘square peg in the round hole effect’ whereby the issue is not between right or wrong but rather is whether or not it is being used in the right way. This was in reference to Dominica’s abundance of resources not being fully appreciated or utilized to benefit the country, in ways that will provide in abundance for its people. He says we as human beings act according to the geographical space that we were born into, and that the white mentality we are emulating is a negative action.
