A doctor who was purportedly offering a medical course was arrested for alleged deception, but later released pending further investigation. A Police source said he was taken into custody on Tuesday but was later released, while investigations into the matter continue. However, the source indicated that the doctor could be facing some charges.
It is alleged that a number of reports were made against the doctor with respect to the course he was offering to students at a local center. Some allege that the certificates that were issued to those who participated in the course are not accredited and carry no weight, and some disgruntled Dominican students may be considering legal action, to recover the fees that they may have paid for the 6-week course. Online advertisements convey the impression that participants could receive $40 to $50 per hour upon successful completion of the course. Advertisements of the center also allgededly gave the impression that graduates would be able to put the acronym PBT after their name, and would be able to sit for International Certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). According to thestluciastar.com, It appears that the doctor may also have encountered some difficulties in St Lucia and may be facing a similar situation in St Lucia. The newspaper reported that the Education Ministry in Saint Lucia cautioned against registering for courses at a center in that country, as the Chief Medical Officer allegedly acknowledged there were complaints about the company. The St. Lucia Star also reported that the six-week course offered by the centre, located in Castries, does not meet the requirements to take the ASCP exam. We hope to reach the doctor in question soon, to get his side of the matter. Q95 will provide you with more information as soon as it becomes available.
