It has been 2,251 days since Vescott Jones employment as a security officer with DASPA at the Melville Hall Airport was unceremoniously terminated and he still unable to get a hearing from a tribunal in order that justice can be served. Controversy has surrounded the firing of Vescott Jones as a security guard, since he was involved in an incident with opposition leader Lennox Linton who was allowed to return crab backs to his family, after Jones advised him that he would not be allowed to travel out of Dominica via the Douglas-Charles Airport with cooked crab backs in his possession. The controversy began on October 19 when Vescott Jones of Marigot, was reportedly given walking papers after he allowed Linton, who was leaving Dominica, to dispose of the crab backs since he did not have the required permit to travel with them. In a letter, dated December 15, 2015, DASPA CEO Benoit Bardouille informed Jones of his dismissal, saying that by allowing Linton to return the crab backs, that Jones had caused the authority to lose confidence in him as an employee and that he had operated in violation of standard operating procedures. Speaking to Q95fm Radio 'Talk on the Block' show yesterday, Jones said it was a painful situation to be in, especially when he did nothing wrong, and to lose his job and livelihood over wickedness is totally unjust. Meantime, his Attorney says they are standing on the count of unfair dismissal of Mr Jones, and the fight continues in seeking justice for him.

Whether they got them as gifts from family & friends or bought them themselves, some started 2021 with new possessions which Sagicor General Insurance asks them to secure with a Contents Insurance policy.
This advice comes from Keith Herbert, Manager, Eastern Caribbean Operations for Sagicor General Insurance Inc., who is speaking not only to homeowners, but also to those individuals who are renting properties. “Homeowners are more likely to have contents insurance due to recommendations made to them when taking out insurance on the building, however, it is often overlooked by persons who are renting property but own the contents”, stated Herbert. “If an individual is renting, and the rented property is destroyed by a fire, earthquake or storm, any contents that are damaged or destroyed at the same time would not be covered by the landlord’s property insurance policy, as most times this only provides coverage for the building structure. A renter would need to purchase a Contents Insurance policy to ensure that they can recover any losses or cost of repairs in the event their contents are damaged or destroyed”, he indicated. As is the case with Motor and Home insurance, Mr. Herbert made the point that the effectiveness of the coverage is aligned to the accuracy of the policy, meaning that it is always in the best interest of the policyholder to ensure their vehicle and property valuations are up-to-date and that these values are shown in their policies. “The same applies to contents insurance, you should always ensure that current replacement values of your contents are used in arriving at your sum to be insured, and that new acquisitions are added to the policy so that they too are covered. As an added benefit, your contents insurance coverage also includes public liability in respect of injury to third parties or damage to their property while at your residence”, he explained. As a result, the insurance company is advising individuals to update their listing and valuations in accordance with any changes or additions to household items and personal valuables, reminding them that anything of value can be insured, including jeweler, family heirlooms, art, etc. For years Dominica has been running like a ‘secret enterprise’ under the Roosevelt Skerrit Administration, to the point where proper statistics regarding abuse cases, poverty census, and unemployment surveys have purposefully been delayed or kept hidden from the public domain, to ensure that the Administration maintains its illusion of a perfect economy to its supporters. Salisbury MP, Hector John, points out the increase in poverty which is now resulting in an increase in the infant mortality rate as well as the birth of underweight babies. Salisbury MP, Hector John
‘Politicians are warned to safeguard their integrity when faced with financial opportunities and not align themselves to political parties’ This, as Health Minister Dr Irving McIntyre, recently came under fire for failing to address accommodation concerns at the country’s quarantine facilities. Meantime, Financial Consultant Louis Robinson thanked Dominica’s healthcare workers and Dr McIntyre for doing a good job in leading the mitigation effort against the Covid-19 Pandemic, which has brought the world to its knees. However, he urged authorities to advance efforts in making quarantine facilities more convenient and comfortable for Covid-19 patients, due to the extravagant cost placed on the backs of the patient in such circumstances.
