Dominica joins hands together to applaud the frontline workers for the extraordinary work they have done and continue to do in their fight against the Covid19 Virus. Allegations abound that Volunteers got cold feet in delivering meals to Covid-19 patient sat St. James Facility in Portsmouth out of fear resulting from reports possible cases of Covid-19.
Q95 news has received audio from one of the members responsible for catering food for the Covid-19 patients in Portsmouth, who stated that persons who first volunteered to deliver food to patients at the St. James Facility have declined to providing the service, out of fear of transmitting the virus. The Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce would like to share with the public the results of their survey on the Impact of COVID-19 on Dominica’s Private Sector. Speaking to Q95 news on Thursday Evening, Executive Director of the Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce, Lizra Fabien stated that the financial loss experienced by the association’s businesses are mainly in cancellation of sales, interruptions in production, logistical challenges, and loss of employees. She also provided findings on the short-term impact on businesses within the next 12 months, along with measures and best practices to be implemented to curb the effect of COVID-19. Fabien says support is required in managing the impact of COVID-19, adding, we have considered the recommendations from the result of this survey and included them in our proposed recommendations for fiscal incentives from Government, to mitigate impacts of COVID-19 on our members and on the Private Sector at large. This is according to PRO of Jolly’s Pharmacy, Carlton Languedoc. Several Employees at Dominica’s Kempinski branded, Cabrits Resort & Spa have allegedly received what purports to be letters of termination dated 24th March, reportedly due to effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic. That’s according to unofficial sources in circulation on social media.
A copy of one such letter in circulation on the internet purports to have been signed by the Resort’s General Manager, and advises employees that due to the confirmation of the Covid-19 Virus in Dominica, and its effect on business clients worldwide, the resort has been feeling the negative economic effects caused by this pandemic. However, Q95 news has not been able to independently verify the source or contents of the document or the signature shown thereon and therefore cannot vouch for its factual correctness or its authenticity. The said document addressed the economic impact of the covid-19 and states that currently the resort is experiencing many cancelations and that operation are almost at a standstill. It added that the impact has become so severe that there is no alternative but to reduce operations and implement staff terminations The document also states that terminated employees are being given a month salary and payment for all vacation leave due, with immediate termination of their contracts. |
