Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says he wants to win big in the upcoming by-election in the Soufriere constituency.
This by-election to be held in the next 88 days, comes following the resignation of Soufriere MP, Ian Pinard, in light of recent allegations leveled against him. " I want to win big as a tribute, and in honor of the outstanding work of Ian Pinard in this constituency" he said.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on a local radio program this week. The contracts for these projects are expected to be signed on May 6th 2016 with works to commence between mid June to early July 2016. A new report published by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Youth-Led Agency, Restless Development, has concluded that young people, particularly young women, are not adequately represented in the current formal political processes or institutions - including parliaments, political parties, elections, and public administrations.
In the report, four key recommendations were made regarding how organizations can proactively empower young people to ensure their roles in delivering the 2030 sustainable development goals (SDGs). “First, youth participation should be strengthened in national review and accountability mechanisms for the SDGs. Second, young people should be empowered to generate, curate and disseminate data for reviewing and monitoring implementation of the SDGs. Thirdly, young people should have assured open access to information on the SDGs. This transparency should include a commitment to publish information that is accessible and usable. Finally, accountability approaches from around the world should be piloted with a view to mainstreaming the best of them by 2030.” Just days after taking her place as Secretary General called on young people – particularly young women, to be her soldiers, as she believes that if enabled, a bright future lies ahead with young people at the helm. Pinard announced his decision at a special meeting of the Dominica Labour Party Constituency Association in Soufriere Tuesday. However Darroux says under the current circumstances, his friend and colleague made the right decision as these allegations are serious and damaging. Meanwhile, Q95 Fm radio has been informed that Denise Charles may be nominated as a candidate for the Soufriere constituency on a DLP ticket in the upcoming by-election.

Charles, who is from Pointe Michel was an integral part of Pinard’s political campaign team before the 2014 general election. She is also a director at the AID Bank and the Public Works Garage. DLP Government defends decision to award West Bridge construction contracts to a foreign company4/28/2016 Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is defending government’s decision to award contracts for the construction of the new West Bridge to a foreign company. NSG Management and technical services ltd. has been contracted by the government of Dominica for the demolition of and reconstruction of the West Bridge, reconstruction of retaining walls and associated drainage works. President of the Dominica Builders and Constructors Association and Chairman of the Joint Consultative committee on the construction sector told a press conference here Monday that the non-inclusion of persons in the local construction sector on major projects is becoming worrying. Grandbay MP, Justina Charles, is encouraging all persons contracted to work on the dredging of a culvert & rehabilitation works in the Geneva area in Grandbay, to work diligently in completing their objectives. Petite Savanne MP Kenneth Darroux expressed his relief that the contracts for road works in his area have been signed before the start of this year’s hurricane season. He says this has lifted a weight off his back. He went on to say that a government cannot sit idly by and wait for “big money” as they have a duty to protect their citizens from harm. Darroux thanked the Public Works Minister for recognizing the importance of these projects and working diligently to bring them to fruition.
