“Denise, stay out of that den of thieves” was the message sent to the DLP Candidate Denise Charles by Former minister of sports, Ron Green.
Green says should Denise fail to heed this advice; it is up to the constituency to protect her, as Prime Minister Skerrit will not. He says the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and it is important to place the protection of our children and our youth foremost.

UWP wants Soufriere constituents to send a message ‘they are not for sale in the June 7 by-election’5/30/2016 UWP Leader, Lennox Linton, wants the people of the Soufriere Constituency to send a clear message to the Government that they are not for sale in the June 7 by-election. With reports that monies are being spent by the ruling party throughout the constituency as the by-election draws nearer, Linton is advising constituents not to become dependent on handouts from the public purse, while the vital interests of their constituency is neglected. He also urged constituents to throw their support behind UWP Candidate Hidges Adams.
Adams has been elected chairman of the Soufriere Village Council for a number of years. Linton says this is testament of a beautiful relationship between a community and somebody whom they know means well. PM Skerrit confident Soufriere projects will reduce unemployment rate to zero % in that constituency5/30/2016 Meanwhile, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, says in addition to the New Jungle Bay Resort, two other development projects in Soufriere will no doubt reduce unemployment in that constituency to zero percent.
Mr. Skerrit says the DLP Administration has delivered more to that constituency than any other government. He stated further that these sustainable tourism development projects coming on stream in Dominica, will encourage more Dominicans resident overseas to return home. The Met office warned persons living in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and falling rocks to exercise caution on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday morning, the Met Office said “Unstable conditions reinforced by moisture convergence have been generating light to moderate and isolated heavy showers across Dominica since Friday evening. Radar imagery indicated that pockets of heavy showers affected mainly the southern portion of Dominica throughout Friday night into Saturday morning.” Rainfall amounts and intensity were higher in the interior of the island due to the enhancing effect of the topography of Dominica. River heights rose and some crested due to runoff from elevated areas. Some areas located downstream of rivers or along river banks were adversely affected. Cloudy conditions with periods of showers continued to affect Dominica throughout the weekend. Rainfall amounts recorded at 8:00 am on Saturday: Douglas-Charles Airport – 11.3mm; Canefield Airport – 17.0mm; D’leau Gommier – 32.7mm; Pond Casse – 15.4mm; and Copthall water level 1.39m (5ft). Q95 received other reports of flooding in some areas of the island, a slide in Scotts Head, and serious damage to the Grand Bay by-pass. The Roseau River had risen steadily since Friday evening. Residents iReports revealed several other incidents in some parts of the country. Meanwhile, the flash flood warning, which was issued for Dominica on Saturday 28th May 2016 by the Dominica Meteorological Service, has been discontinued. “However, brief scattered shower activity is still expected, with slight to moderate sea conditions during the next several hours, and waves possibly peaking near 5 to 7 feet in open waters. Former Prime Minister challenges Prime Minister Skerrit to debate against opposition leader5/27/2016 “Let that coward accept the challenge” dared Former Prime Minister Edison James, as he challenged Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to a face to face debate with opposition leader Lennox Linton.
James says that promises of an international airport by the Prime Minister will never come to fruition until the United Workers Party takes control of the country. He then challenged the prime minister to a debate in the Soufriere constituency against the opposition leader. General Manager of the Dominica Electricity Services Ltd (DOMLEC), Bertilia McKenzie, says despite a challenging year, the company gained a 4.2 percent increase in electricity sales in the year 2015.
She revealed that the company experienced a drop in profit this time around as compared to the $14.8-million in 2014. In 2015, the company recorded a net profit of $12.29 million and Mckenzie says the reason was due to increased taxation. “The profit in the year before, in 2014, was higher,” she stated. “One of the things is that our net income [in 2015], before tax, was higher, but the tax was higher. We paid more tax in 2015 than we did in 2014.” in 2015 Income before taxation was $16.8-million & amounted to $16.5-million in 2014. However, in that same year, tax amounted to $1.6-million, but grew to $4.5-million in 2015. Meantime, McKenzie announced that the company plans to become a fully “clean and green” utility, by 2025. Earlier today, bus drivers and passengers were in a state of unrest as the St Joseph Bus Stop was sectioned off and utilized as a drop off for containers loaded with materials believed to be reserved for the construction of the new west bridge.
In efforts to restore order, the containers were moved however new information says that from tomorrow Saturday the bus stop will be relocated to River Street as was done for the groundbreaking ceremony for the West Bridge in April. Tourism Minister, Robert Tonge, announces plans for a future parking lot for the city.
While designs have not been confirmed, he says two terminals are intended for the north and south to hold approximately 200 vehicles each. The minister stated it is just a matter of adequate planning in order to bring these plans about in the coming future. Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, has reiterated his call to DLP Candidate in the Soufriere by-election, Denise Charles, to make clear her position on child sexual abuse here.
Charles replaces Ian Pinard, who resigned as Soufriere MP in light of allegations of inappropriate behaviour levelled against him. Linton, at a meeting of his party at Pointe Michel Thursday, told constituents, new allegations against Ms. Charles, are the reason for him repeating this call. " She cannot be allowed to go through this entire campaign and remain quiet on the issue given what she has already done" said Linton. |
