According to a press release sent to Q95 news on Tuesday, Dominica Nurses Association (DNA) is pleased to announce Family Nurse Practitioner Grethel Peters-Magloire as the 2016 – 2018 Nurse of the Biennium. She was presented with the second Elaine Pringle Award during the association’s 61st anniversary celebration at the Scotts-head Gospel Mission Church yesterday.
This award also means that Mrs. Magloire will go on to be the recipient of a Caribbean Nurses Organization Award given to member country’s Nurse of the Biennium at its upcoming 31st conference in Barbados, this October. Nurse Magloire was nominated among three Registered Nurses by a team of Senior Community Health Nurses. She emerged the awardee as a result of her demonstration of excellence and professionalism in nursing practice and leadership in her professional organization. Mrs. Magloire has been a nurse for 30 years. She is a disciplined, self-motivated and committed community nurse whose passion for professional development and nursing service saw her rise from Nursing Assistant to Registered Nurse to Midwife and to her career dream - Family Nurse Practitioner. She holds an Associate and Bachelor Degree in Nursing and a Master Degree in Advanced Nursing, the latter two from the University of the West Indies. The DNA executive thanks Nurse Magloire for her dedicated and sacrificial nursing service of love and congratulates her on being the recipient of Nurse of the Biennium – Elaine Pringle Award. Nurse Practitioner, Grethel Peter-Maglore hails from the Marigot Health District where she currently serves. The first recipient of the Elaine Pringle Award was Nurse Jessica Cuffy-David. Police public relations officer Simon Edwards in a report to the media said Florann David, 50 years of Mahaut, was last seen alive on Saturday 25th August 2018.
He added that an alarm was raised when she was absent from work on Monday 27th August 2018 and so at about 10 am on Tuesday morning, at Mahaut, the brother of the deceased gained entry into her dwelling, by damaging the front door. Edwards said he found her lying motionless on the floor in the living room. The Police and Doctor were summoned. The body was pronounced dead by the Medical Doctor on the scene and transported to the Gentle Rest Funeral Home. Foul play is not suspected. Gregoire says that he is putting a challenge to Christian to come forth with the audit written in 2008, and says it’s been 10 years since this report has been allegedly written and delivered. She says Governments tend to invest in physical capital and neglect or rather under-invest in the people Carrington adds that if her party is elected into government, her administration will invest in education, health infrastructure etc but finds it equally important to invest in youth and citizens to be ready to compete and thrive in the 21st century and beyond. In recent times the issue of gun violence here in Dominica has become one of serious concern. Many people are beginning to get a sense of fear as it relates to the amount of deaths seen by the hands of guns, some of which have been in broad daylight. Speaking on the “Kingdom Connection” program aired on Q95 Radio, Pastor Randy Rodney shared his opinion on these matters as they relate to public safety. He says that we need to have a new perception in our approach to crime as the current ways in which we operate, seems a bit un pragmatic. Rodney says that the fear of speaking out and against certain injustices of society plays a serious role in our approach to crime, as we have socially conditioned to remain silent and in fear.
