The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has announced the debarment of GL Systems LLC, an American company, for four years in connection with allegations of prohibited practices in three IDB-financed activities: (i) the program for the modernization of customs, excise and VAT areas in Barbados, (ii) the Barbados competitiveness program, and (iii) an IDB corporate procurement contract.
This is the IDB’s first debarment resulting from a negotiated resolution agreement, which was negotiated and entered into by the IDB’s Office of Institutional Integrity, in accordance with the IDB Group’s sanctions procedures. GL Systems entered into the settlement agreement on behalf of itself and the custom software product lines of the business formerly known as GreenLine Systems, Inc. and A-T Solutions, Inc.

US President Donald Trump has warned that his policies will be "violently" overturned if the Democrats win November's mid-term elections.
He told Evangelical leaders that the vote was a "referendum" on freedom of speech and religion, and that these were threatened by "violent people". He appealed to conservative Christian groups for help, saying they were one vote away from "losing everything". Mid-term elections are widely seen as a test of the president's popularity. Mr Trump has been battling negative publicity after his ex-lawyer and former campaign chief were convicted earlier this month. Details of their activity or findings have not yet been released in an official police report, but the activity has however been confirmed by police. However, they have not confirmed or denied that the operation was related to two separate shooting incidents in Roseau, which resulted in the death of two men from Grand Bay. Brian Alexander was shot in the back of the head in the area of a popular Bar and Grill early morning on Saturday August 25, 2018. On August 8, 2018 Ezron Roberts was fatally shot on Kennedy Avenue in Roseau, at the intersection with Kings Lane. Police Public Relations Officer, Simon Edwards said he is awaiting information and will soon issue an official statement. He also confirmed that police are investigating a sudden death in Mahaut. President of the Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce (DAIC) businessman Kenny Green recently expressed a view on the 2018/2019 National Budget address made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. Green is of the view that there should be a system in place to trace the progress made by any Government in power, where the people would be able to see if the administration is on target or otherwise, in terms of the implementation of the programs contained in the budget. Former DLP Agriculture Minister Artherton Martin says Prime Minister Skerrit missed many opportunities to significantly diversify and revamp and boost Dominica’s economy. Speaking to Q95 on Tuesday, Martin stressed that post Hurricane Maria, Prime Minister Skerrit should have sought to focus on getting financial aid for specific projects in every sector of the Dominican economy, even as he was continuing to promote the country’s CBI program. The Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Manuel Otero, visited Dominica on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He and others presented IICA’s new 2019-2022 Medium Term Plan which is intended to assist the Agriculture sector in Dominica and regionally. Dr. Otero advised that the idea of a Regional Resilience Agricultural Centre may soon be a reality, and that this idea will soon be presented and shared with the national authorities. He said this idea is international and revolutionary and will be an example for others to emulate. He stated that after speaking to Agriculture Minister Reginald Austrie & others, he feels confident this idea may soon be a reality for Dominica. Barbados needs to pick up new business in the area of international business and financial services, said Prime Minister Mia Mottley, after the Barbados International Business Association’s (BIBA) Task Force, led by chairman Ben Arrindell, presented a report to the government.
Mottley expressed the view that many opportunities were available to Barbados, but enough people had to be put in place to pursue them “in a credible and structured way” Russia plans to hold massive war games involving 300,000 personnel next month - its biggest military manoeuvres since a Cold War drill in 1981. Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov said the Vostok-2018 drills were justified given "aggressive and unfriendly" attitudes towards his country.
Units from China and Mongolia will also take part in the exercises at military ranges in central and eastern Russia. The manoeuvres come at a time of rising tension between Nato and Russia. |
