Parliamentary Representative for the St Joseph Constituency, Dr Adis King is urging her constituents to come out in large numbers and get tested. She says accommodation has been made for comfortable and private testing. She was speaking in an interview with DBS radio. National Security Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore says everyone has to play their role to avoid illegal entry into the country. Blackmoore stated that he is a strong advocate for Community Policing, and thinks that people can play a great role in the police clamping down on illegal activity happening in the country. One of the biggest contributors to vaccine hesitancy has always been misinformation and fear mongering using social media platforms.As a result, the UWI Open Campus sought to dispel some of these myths and misinformation, and is encouraging persons to make informed decisions as it relates to getting vaccinated. Speaking at the recent virtual press conference, Dr. Heather Harewood, Lecturer on public health, spoke on some of the implemented MPI’s in the fight against Covid19. MPI’s are measures implemented to ensure the spread of the virus is not significant. The Dominica State College announced that due to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Dominica, there would be a delay in the reopening of the College, and classes will be delivered online in the first instance.
The College seeks to provide a smooth transition for students, lecturers, and staff so that they will experience the safest and least disruptive mode of learning during the beginning of the academic year. The College will temporarily limit access to on-campus instruction for the first four weeks of school from September 6 to September 30, 2021. Following the first four weeks, the delivery mode will depend on the COVID-19 situation in the country and guidance by the health authorities. A learning device and access to the internet are essential for the success of online learning. Students are encouraged to seek out learning devices and access to the internet from the first day of instruction, September 6, 2021. Students without internet connection can access the College’s Computer Labs and WIFI. A sign-up sheet will be created for booking. Additionally, students can benefit from the arrangements currently being made with the Ministry of Education with the cooperation from public schools around the country. The College looks forward to a smooth online start to the academic year from September 6. At Friday’s Covid-19 Press Briefing, Principal Nursing Officer Mrs. Terrilia Ravaliere assured Dominicans that the covid-19 Care facility is adequately equipped to provide appropriate services to Covid Patients in Dominica. Ravaliere added that staffing at the facility is adequate, & they continue to provide effective Health care to patients, with the addition of a nutritionist to ensure patients eat healthy. The Covid-19 Care Complex is said to include a network of nine facilities that are operated by competent and dedicated nursing and medical personnel.
