On behalf of the leadership, members, and supporters of the United Workers Party-TEAM Dominica (UWP), the National Executive Committee extends condolences to the grieving family of the late Mrs. Alix Boyd Knight, former Speaker of Dominica’s House of Assembly.
Death is an inevitability that faces each of us. Our lives are redeemed by the impact, influence, and legacy we create for our fellow men. Each of us will ultimately be called upon to give an account of our stewardship to God, and this reminds us soberly of our calling and responsibility to the call of the Golden Rule, which is the ultimate recompense of our earthly stewardship. Death always causes the living to reflect on their own frailty and mortality, which requires repentance from sin and seeking our Lord God Almighty’s forgiveness for these sins. May Mrs. Alix Boyd Knight rest in eternal peace with our Lord.

In arelease, Gael “Trilla G” Jno Baptiste calypso king of 2023 said “Calypso music connects people and cultures. I realize how significant this is after becoming Calypso Monarch of Dominica. It is indeed an honor to connect with& serve the people since becoming Calypso Monarch on February 20, 2023. It is a known fact that I speak and 'sing' my mind, so when I said, via a social media post, that we need to 'take our country back', this was quite within my character. My statement was a call to young Dominicans, and citizens alike, to regain what I see as a loss of pride in self and country.
The notion that young people are a “sewo” generation is based on a false premise. Young people travel, and we observe the level of development of our sister islands. Young people have questions, and we demand greater accountability and transparency from those who run the affairs of our country. I aim to lead a message on inclusion, not division. Young people want to be seen and heard. We want to be respected and embraced in the process of nation building. Young people want to be understood and appreciated. We want our youthful energies to be brought to the table in a meaningful way. We want to have a say in designing our destiny. I am greatly encouraged by the outpouring of support that I have received by the overwhelming majority of young Dominicans since the 'take our country back' post. I welcome the wisdom and experience of grown people who share that vision of a better Dominica. I resolve to keep advocating for jointaction. This is why I will launch the TKYI initiative on October 1, 2023, to mark the 23rd Anniversary of Rosie Douglas' death, and initiate a platform for youth advocacy and togetherness, upward mobility and social justice. There is a lack of vision, unproductivity, stalemate & unattractive politics that have gripped our nation since Rosie's death; before I even knew myself, and now that I know myself, I believe it is time to take back our country. The youth of our nation stand solidly behind this 'Take-it-back' pledge, because we are fed-up!” Justice Dr Irving Andre points to instances of what he considers to be disrespectful actions being displayed by the Dominica Labour Party. He recalls a situation where a party supporter ridiculed a financially struggling single mother seeking help, highlighting a dismissive attitude towards her. This behavior, according to Andre, reflects a wider issue in the party, including the significant earnings of foreign individuals surpassing the annual salary budget of civil servants in Dominica. Furthermore, Justice Andre criticizes the apparent disparity in earnings and priorities within the government. He highlights instances where foreign individuals are making significant amounts of money, dwarfing the earnings of locals involved in programs like the National Employment Program (NEP). Andre underscores the need to address this discrepancy, especially when impoverished Dominicans continue to face challenges like inadequate housing. Justice Andre pointed out that the issue runs deeper than mere mockery of a parliamentarian's accent. He suggests that it reflects a larger ethical problem within the country, where individuals are driven by a culture of self-interest and opportunism. Andre emphasizes that such actions are enabled by political rhetoric that glorifies those in power, perpetuating a cycle of moral decay. Justice Dr. Irving Andre.

Mayor of Roseau Sandra Irmine-Royer says the idea of term limits for the prime minister, and a fixed date for election cannot be, and should not be considered or accepted. She claims that it does not suit the culture of governance in Dominica, but she did not define the ingredients of that culture of governance, whatever that means. Mayor of Roseau Sandra Irmine-Royer
Outspoken Social scientist Simeon Joseph expresses his perspective on the current government's legitimacy, stating that he does not consider the Labour Party's victories as true wins due to alleged unethical practices like bribery and cheating. He likens this situation to a football match where rule-breaking players claim victory under impartial referees, emphasizing the erosion of integrity in Dominica's political landscape. Joseph also criticizes the actions of the twelfth speaker of the House of Assembly, characterizing them as treacherous and comparable to the betrayal of Judas Iscariot. Justice Dr. Irving Andre emphasized that the purpose of limiting overseas voting is to prioritize those within Dominica who experience the consequences of their vote and its effects on governance. He referenced a case in St. Kitts in which proposed changes were made to ensure that only residents of St. Kitts and Nevis at the time of elections could vote. Andre contends that the rationale behind this change was to prevent a small portion of the voting population living abroad from disproportionately influencing the election outcome and then leaving immediately thereafter. Justice Andre argues that this perspective challenges the narrative of disenfranchising voters abroad and underscores the importance of fairness in electoral processes. Justice Dr. Irving Andre.
