LIAT says it has resumed all normal scheduled flight operations today 29th September, subject to the re-opening of airports as planned.

New Portsmouth Festivals Committee (PFC) tasked with management of events & festivals in the town9/29/2016 The Portsmouth Town Council has called together stakeholders within the town, to form the “Portsmouth Festivals Committee”, and tasked it with the management of festivals and events including Carnival, in the town of Portsmouth.
The Portsmouth Festivals Committee will be a partnership between the council and the community, with officials of the organization coming from the Town Council and the wider community. An interim executive was elected and mandated with the task of planning an ambitious schedule of events for Carnival 2017. Elected to serve on the organization are President - Ashton Riviere; Co Events Coordinators - Mr. Edrington James and Girda Bedminster; Treasurer - Cynthia Wenham; and Public Relations Officer Roslyn Prince. Secretarial responsibility will be provided by the Town Council. The Councillors hope Portsmouth will see the return of pageants such as: Calypso Monarch, Miss North, North Teen, Sensay Competition (Mas of the Year) Kiddies Carnival and Junior Calypso Monarch, among others. Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Fire and Ambulance Services, Wayne Letang, advises Dominicans to avoid high risk areas at all costs.
Letang says in the past, officers have been successful in moving persons from high risk areas however he appeals to Dominicans to remain indoors rather than going out into potentially dangerous weather for photos and sightseeing. He advises that in case of emergency one should call the fire department hotline or the newly installed E911 system. Martin says the relevant authorities should have stopped the operations of the Pig Farm owned by Dr. John Toussaint, as this act of bad management affects the entire community of LaPlaine, and the tourism sites and facilities in that area. Martin says it is not fair that Dr. Toussaint makes a living at the expense of other people in the community. Pesticide Inspector in the Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Joseph Blanford announced that Dominica has joined the rest of the Caribbean, in recognizing pesticide awareness week, under the theme “Managing pesticides responsibly adapting to climate change!” Blanford says management of pesticides in modern day farming is crucial in the production process, in that it helps fight off various pests that can destroy the crops. He adds that his department focuses heavily on educating agriculture personnel and the general public, on the pros and cons of using and properly disposing of pesticides, in order to avoid contamination or pollution of the environment.
