The Ministry of Agriculture last week made its annual Christmas donations to charitable organizations across the island.And Walsh says this donation also goes towards the foundation's etiquette dinner which assists the children in learning proper table manners. The food baskets included groceries, as well as ground provisions, pork, chicken, fish, fruits and vegetables.The Minister for Agriculture & Fisheries Johnson Drigo says he is very impressed with Walsh for her work with at risk youth.

Government sends condolences to family & friends of late Fmr ECCB Governor Sir Dwight Venner12/29/2016 PM Roosevelt Skerrit on behalf of the government and people of Dominica extended his condolences to the family and friends of the late Sir Dwight Venner, former Governor of the ECCB.Sir Venner died in St Lucia last Thursday night.
Skerrit says DwightVenner was a man who played a tremendous role during his governance and who believed in the integration of the OECS. Police have launched investigations into a fire in Silver Lake, which left nineteen families homeless.
According to police reports, the fire destroyed two eight bedroom apartments on December 26, 2016, but no fatalities were reported. Here is Police PRO Sergeant Pellam JnoBaptiste with more details. Yesterday, Government presented 20 heads of households each, with a cheque of $1,000, to shop for some of their basic requirements. Minister Austrie says housing construction works forthe silver lake community, will be swift. Minister for social services, family and gender affairs Catherine Daniel, advises silver lake residents who lost their homes in Monday’s fire to adjust to their current situation.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Skerrit promised one thousand dollars to every family who lost their home in Monday’s fire, until such time that they are resettled. Assuring the residents of the government’s commitment to them, Daniel said the stipend given will not do much for the moment, however, it will help with purchasing personal essentials. Roseau South MP Joshua Francis is discouraging politicians from using Monday’s devastating fire which recently occurred in Silver Lake, to score political points. The fire destroyed two eight-room apartment buildings, which were occupied by nineteen families. Francis urged all political players to use the opportunity to put the interests and the well-being of the people first, ahead of their own political interests. Meanwhile, Francis lamented the government’s failure to include him in discussions, in his capacity as the parliamentary representative for the constituency.
He says it is his constitutional right to represent his people, and he feels it would have been appropriate if the prime minister had at least spoken with him on their matter. UWP Leader expects DLP Government to fulfil all promises made to dislocated Silverlake residents12/29/2016 Leader of the United Workers Party Lennox Linton is expecting the Dominica Labour Party to fulfil all of the promises which it made to the dislocated people of Silverlake, following a recent ferocious fire, in which 20 families making up a total of some 60 persons lost everything.
