A two-day workshop on enhancing the adoption and use of SLM concepts and technologies in Dominica, which is being held by the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM), began on Tuesday November 29, 2022. Dr. Dave Lloyd who is working on two regional PISLM projects as the watershed management consultant, will be the host of the sessions.
These two projects, "Strengthening Resilience of Agricultural Lands and Forests in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria" and "Sustainable Land Management in the Commonwealth of Dominica," are funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP, and carried out by the PISLM. They aim to advance landscape-level planning, information and coordination frameworks to support sustainable agriculture and sustainable watershed management. Dominica's forest resources continue to be unstable and decreasing due to human demands and the effects of recent catastrophic weather occurrences. This two-day interactive workshop emphasizes the necessity for methodical techniques to protect the island's crucial ecosystems and engages the use of solid ecological principles to steer restoration efforts in light of the difficulties made worse by these unfavorable weather circumstances. In order to better manage and conserve Dominica's woods, it is planned that forestry field employees gain the necessary skills.
