Environmental Health Department reregistering food establishments to prevent food borne diseases10/26/2017 The Environmental Health Department announced that 42 businesses have been approved to serve the public, following the intense 2-week assessment by the department, following Hurricane Maria. The department has been concerned that members of the public could fall ill from food borne diseases, and a decision has therefore been taken to have all food establishments re-register with the Ministry of Health, in order to save lives and not complicate an already risky situation following a disaster. Chief Environmental Health Officer Ferdinia Carbon says the Environmental Health Department is now officially opened for business and members of the public should go in to register, and re-register. She says her department will make a list of approved businesses available to the public in the interest of all. Chief Environmental Health Officer Ferdinia Carbon Meantime, Senior Environmental Health Officer Sylvester St Ville says this is not an attempt to prevent businesses from making money, but it is a decision that must be upheld, to protect the health of the people.
