When Parliament convenes today Monday April 29, 2024, the Government of Dominica will present a proposal for parliamentary approval of a credit facility aimed at funding the development of a new electricity transmission network. Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience & Social Security Dr Irving McIntyre will spearhead the resolution for the authorization of a credit facility totaling $103.95 million from the International Development Association (IDA).
This initiative forms part of the government's plan to advance the production of geothermal energy, which include establishing a new electricity power plant to facilitate connectivity between the geothermal power plant in Laudat and the hydroelectric power plants situated in the Roseau Valley. This interconnected network is intended to extend to DOMLEC's sub-station at Fond Cole, enhancing distribution capabilities to serve electricity consumers effectively. In tandem with this proposal, the Government of Dominica says it will also introduce a motion seeking approval for supplementary estimates totaling EC$52,441,040 for the fiscal year 2023/24. Furthermore, a bill will be tabled for consideration, aiming to amend the Tax Information Exchange Act as part of broader legislative efforts.
