Mr. Sheridan Gregoire President of NIDCLF was a guest on the “Talk on the Block” program on Q95 Thursday afternoon. Mr Gregoire responded to a question regarding the arrest and punitive bail conditions imposed on Dr Thomson Fontaine, by saying that the court should not prevent Dr. Fontaine from returning to South Sudan to continue carrying out his duties which is his source of income to support himself and his family. He said this case has been going on for 5 years and no progress has been seen so far and the evidence to support incitement did not appear to exist. He believes the court should allow Dr. Fontaine to return to Sudan and attend any court sessions via “zoom” media platform. Mr. Gregoire said the bail amount of $75,000.00 which was imposed on Dr. Fontaine by the Magistrate was excessive for someone who does not have a criminal record, and he called on the attorneys representing Dr. Fontaine to present a strong argument to have the bail amount and conditions varied. Gregoire added that no one has come forward to testify to having been incited to cause any harm, for which Dr. Fontaine and the opposition members were charged, so therefore appears to be no case, therefore the charges should all be dismissed. President of NIDCLF, Mr. Sheridan Gregoire
