Eight (8) of the competitors will try to dethrone reigning Calypso Queen Janae ‘Janae’ Jackson. These competitors are Tasha ‘Tasha P’ Peltier, Royette ‘Royette’ Laurent, Mandissa ‘Mandissa’ Ducreay, Nachael ‘Nachael’ Walsh, Delah ‘Delah’ Gachette, Shirley ‘Lady S’ Charles, Alisha ‘Alisha’ Ducreay, and Rhea ‘Stingray’ Lloyd. At a Mas Domnik press conference held on Wednesday 15th February 2017, show organizer Alex Bruno said, “This year, we are going to have the competition in honor of, and as a tribute to two fallen comrades of calypso. The ladies will sing an original song in the first round, and the second round is dedicated to deceased Booplay and Leandra,” Bruno noted, “They will be doing either Booplay’s or Leandra’s song. They have already dipped for this. They are fully rehearsed, and are sounding pretty impressive, if I should say so myself”. He is inviting patrons to the event saying “it’s going to be a new dimension to calypso”. ‘Lady V’ and ‘De Healer’ will be guest artistes at tonight’s competition. The Triple Kay Band will provide musical accompaniment for the competitors.
