Retired Police Superintendent Yvonne Alexander ready to work as Dominica Cancer Society President5/30/2017 Photo: DA Vibes Distinguished Retired Police Superintendent Yvonne Alexander, who was recently elected President of the Dominica Cancer Society, is ready to roll up her sleeves, and take on the task of heading that association. She joined the Cancer Society about one year ago, and acknowledges that being new will be challenging, but she is ready to take on the challenge.
The Cancer Society elected a new Board of Directors at its AGM on 2nd May 2017. Alexander says being the president is a responsibility that requires dedication to the association and to all of its activities. She describes her function as a big new responsibility, as the association has many needs and limited resources. She added that very few people are willing to take on these types of responsibilities. However, Alexander says with some past board members on this current board, she is looking forward to working with the new executive. The other board members are Vice President Kathleen Cornelius, Secretary Juliet Lewis, Treasurer Anne Marie George, PRO Vinna Royer, and Board Members Jennifer Carlyle and Nadia Riviere. Meanwhile Alexander is extending an invitation to the general public to support the association’s planned or related activities throughout the year, such as the ‘Annual Walk for Cancer Care’ in October, and fund raising activities organized by other groups, including a ‘Pan in Harmony’ concert at the Arawak House of Culture on 17th June, and a gospel concert at the Arawak House of Culture in August.
