Parliamentary representative for the Roseau South Constituency, Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite states that she has spoken with community members in Newtown to learn what they want to happen in terms of development. She says that she noted the community's desire for progress, and specifically their request for lights for their playing field, which was harmed by Hurricane Maria several years ago. She says it seemed obvious that since Newtown is known for its sports, fixing the playing field lights would be a top priority for them. She said the goal of the $181,00 project is to make lighting better and make sure that semi-professional football is played there. Six poles and improved lighting will be provided as part of the project to address the issue of sports on the playing field. Hypolite emphasized the importance of the Finance Ministry's backing in advancing funds for the Dominican football scene.
