Guest on the “In the Spotlight” program hosted by Ferdina Frampton Monday night was, Pearle Christian, affectionately known as "Aunty Pearle", a Dominican music educator, composer, choral music director, and retired cultural worker, who has been called "one of Dominica's greatest daughters."
Christian has had an amazing 36 years of labour of love at the Cultural Division from 1981. She is a Convent High School graduate of the 60's, born of music guru Henckell Christian and Muriel Christian (nee Mathew) in the village of Laplaine. Some of her works included Ananse and fire (1988), Song of the Sisserou (1989) Ananse and the Pusher (1990) Anancy, and The Mirrors(1991,) Maruka (1992) Mama Ella ( 1994), Ma Flora-Golden Keeper of the Savannah, Befriending Ma Ziggilly and Anancy and Commonsense. She obtained a Master's Degree at Texas University, still in her search for excellence and thirst for knowledge in her music vocation. She says that she hasn’t always been confident in herself, and it took her some time to see herself as different. She says her parents and confidence in music and culture saved her.
