Ophelia Thomas, psychologist, councillor in the Ministry of Health, Wellness & environment in St Vincent & the Grenadines & ‘endowarrior’ speaks of the things that can affect the mental health of someone with endometriosis, which happens when the endometrium, the tissue that usually lines the inside of a woman’s uterus, grows outside of it. This tissue acts like regular uterine tissue does during your period: It will break apart and bleed at the end of the cycle. But this blood has nowhere to go. Surrounding areas may become inflamed or swollen. She was a guest speaker at the ‘Focus on Endometriosis’ discussion at the UWI Open Campus over the weekend. Thomas, founder the advocacy group ‘She is Lotus’, asserts “You are the CEO of your body” She encourages women with endo join support groups and reach out to other women with endometriosis. She also urges these women to continue to eat healthy and remain active. St. Vincent Psychologist and Councillor, Ophelia Thomas
