UK Based Charity Dominica Secondary Schools Support Association (DSSSA), donates 7 laptops to St Martin Secondary School Students (SMSS). This will better equip them to write this year’s CESC Exams.
During the handing over Ceremony on the school compound on Wednesday April 17, SMSS Principal, Mrs. Christian said the school is grateful for this donation which will significantly assist its computer labs, where at least one of its laptops was significantly damaged as a result of Hurricane Maria in 2017. School Counsellor Thomas Holmes, who was instrumental in creating the link between the SMSS and the DSSSA, noted that following discussions with Mrs Christian, the possibility of accessing new laptops for the school was explored. Within days of Holmes contacting the DSSSA, the organization responded by donating the laptops which are necessary for the upcoming exams, many of which are to be done online. The DSSSA was established after Dominicans based in the UK recognized the needs of secondary school students back home, according to a representative. Milner Francis handed over the laptops on behalf of the DSSSA. Francis is the owner of Premier Computing in Dominica. He reminded the students that education is the key to their future. He said, “DASSSA raises funds through various initiatives such as walks and other fundraising events, to provide this support.” He called on other organizations or persons who wish to come on board to assist he DSSSA, to do so.
