The appointment of a DPP on contract for one year is a violation of the constitution, reveals Leader of the UWP Lennox Linton. Mr. Linton speaking at the UWP Press conference on Tuesday referenced the Public Notice sent out by the Ministry of National Security and Home affairs, that revealed that they are seeking to fill the post of Director of Prosecutions (DPP). Mr. Linton Highlighted that Sections 88 (1), Section 88 (6) subsection (7) as well as section 88 (7) of the constitution which endows the director of public prosecution with independence and security of tenure to ensure that the criminal Justice system operates on the principle of equality before the law and is free from political and other improper influences. Linton reveals that a director of public prosecutions working under the supervision of the Attorney General is a violation of the Constitution as revealed by Section 72 (2), and 72 (6).By that notion there is absolutely no provision in the constitution for the AG to give directions to the DPP. He says the intention is clear, that the Ministry’s DPP recruitment plan betrays the sinister plot of the Roosevelt Skerrit Regime. Leader of the Opposition, Lennox Linton.
