1 woman swept away after 1 pm Monday, following heavy rains from a Tropical Wave, was found dead8/2/2016 A woman who was reportedly swept away, just after 1:00 pm on Monday, due to heavy rains from a Tropical Wave that affected Dominica over the weekend, was found lifeless. That incident took place at Glassé, near the village of Boetica on the east coast of the island. The dead woman has been identified as Wendy Thomas of Fond Cole.
According to reports, a group of eight (8) was at Glassé Point, when a number of individuals were swept away by waves. All of them made it back to shore except for Wendy Thomas. Her body was reportedly fished from the sea about 200 feet from shore by the Marine Unit. She was later officially pronounced dead at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) by a medical doctor. The La Plaine Police were informed of the matter and visited the scene of the incident. A coroner’s inquest is expected to be convened. Another woman April Philogene, also of Fond Cole, who sustained injuries before being rescued, was treated at the La Plaine Health Center, and was later transferred to the Accident & Emergency Department of the PMH, where she was examined, treated and subsequently discharged. Sources indicate that Philogene is Thomas’ sister. Meanwhile, the Geneva bypass in the Grand Bay area, is among infrastructure that was damaged by heavy downpours from the Tropical Wave, which affected Dominica on Saturday night and thereafter.
