Executive Director of Lifeline Ministries Tina Alexander said there were 140 reports of child sexual abuse in 2015 yet none of these children has had the opportunity to see a child psychotherapist. Alexander laments the lack of counsellors in the prison, however she says it is even scarier that there are no counsellors in social services. She says counsellors in education are overworked, while there are many counsellors who are unemployed, or they are counselling part time. Ms Alexander continues to strongly advocate for the setting up of the family court, which would make the court process more 'child friendly', as opposed to the present juvenile court. She says currently, the setting in the court is such that the victim is made to feel like the criminal.
Alexander says there is no need to have the child brought to the court, citing this as just an opportunity for defense lawyers to get their clients off in some way. "The whole system is on the side of the perpetrator, and not on the side of the victim" says Alexander.
