Vada Roberts a former student of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School received the WHITCO Inc. Scholarship, while ‘The Elkin Bernard Henry Memorial Scholarship’ was awarded to Garner Harris, a past student of the St Mary’s Academy.
Former President of Dominica and Director of WHITCO Inc Eluid Williams, during his address at the launching ceremony of the annual WHITCO Inc, DSC Scholarship Program held at the DSC conference room on Thursday. The director stated that the value of the scholarship is $6635 for a two-year Associate Degree in business administration or entrepreneurship. “What we did there, is pay the college in respect of their first year tuition which is $1817,” he said. The students were each, also presented with a cheque amounting to $1500 towards books, allowances and transportation for their first year, “so next year the same amounts will be repeated and there will be two new scholars.” Williams told the recipients these scholarships come with responsibilities. “You will be required to work diligently if you are to retain the scholarships,” he stated. “You will be required to maintain a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.75, and we expect you to do that consistently.”
