Twenty Dominicans have consented for training to join the fight against illegal substance abuse and violence on island. This as the Ministry of Health through the National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit embarked on a training and certification program for drug violence and prevention treatment and rehabilitation. This training is being held in collaboration with the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commissions, the Organization of American States and the University of the West Indies. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Helen Royer says Dominica continues to grapple with the challenges of violence and substance abuse. Royer says the program will hopefully strengthen the island’s capacity to deal with drug related issues.
