2016 National Calypso Queen, 17-year old Janae Jackson has released her first Album entitled Eclipse2/5/2016 2016 National Calypso Queen, 17-year old Janae Jackson has released her first Album entitled Eclipse. The launch of the album was held at Joval’s Terrace on Federation Drive in Goodwill, on Wednesday 3rd February 2016. The CD contains six songs, and is available for purchase at a cost of $25. The album represents phases, moods and modes of Janae’s young career representing calypso, jazz, ballad and reggae-pop, and hence the title ‘Eclipse’.
Over the past seven years, Jackson has been a lead act on Dominica’s musical landscape having won the Junior Monarch title, DBS Christmas Song Contest 2012 & 2013, 3rd place in the MMTS-Bahamas Talent Search Event, 2016 National Female Monarch and is presently a finalist in the 2016 National Calypso Monarch competition among others. Acting assistant chief cultural officer Gregory Rabess congratulated Janae on this milestone achievement, and for her accomplishments thus far. “You have done very well in this year’s competition and I wish you the very best. I look forward to hearing this album Eclipse,” Rabess said. President of the Dominica Calypso Association, Derryck ‘De Hunter’ St Rose endorsed the project. Jackson is the only female competitor in this year’s Calypso Final scheduled for Saturday 6th February 2016, at the Pottersville Savannah. St. Rose said “Although she is the youngest in the finals, she is teaching the older folks how to do the business, and I am so proud of her”. He commended her parents Ian & Agatha Jackson, for supporting & molding her, and encouraged Janae to create music that has International appeal.
