Seven murder cases are expected to be heard during the trial of criminal causes which got underway today at the High Court in Roseau.
Among them is the retrial of Shane Degallerie, who was found guilty by a nine-member jury in 2013 for the 2010 murder of Justine Joseph of Fond Cole. The matter was ordered for retrial by the ECSC for what they described as errors by the trial judge. Other murder matters to be heard are that of Vivian Charles, Asher James, Reginald Mann, Mackenly Williams, Mitchel Toussaint and Daniel Elton Bannis. A total of 23 cases are on the cause list and the others include, rape, indecent assault, drug trafficking, unlawful wounding, abduction and grievous bodily harm. Director of Public Prosecution Evelina Baptiste, along with state attorneys, in her department, will prosecute on behalf of the state and Justice Errol Thomas will preside.
