Thirty Coconut farmers and agricultural officers across the North to North East parts of the island were engaged in a training exercise on Wednesday as part of CARDI's Coconut Industry Development project for the Caribbean Region. This workshop, held in the Kalinago Territory, follows the launch of the Coconut Industry Development for the Caribbean in 2015. CARDI representative, Kishma Registe, says this training was geared at enhancing the competitiveness of small scale coconut farmers. Meanwhile, facilitator of the training, Dr. Compton Paul, says two sites have been determined for the establishment of two pilot nurseries in Dominica. This he says will educate coconut farmers on seedling development. Some $35 US dollars is being injected into this project. In October 2016 Dr. Compton Paul and the Project Agronomist will return to the island to visit the two pilot nurseries housing approximately one thousand (1,000) seednuts of the best varieties of coconut seednuts from around the island.*
