A 45-year-old woman, Anita Austrie, of Morne-a-Louis in Portsmouth, and sister of the Minister for Housing, Lands & Water Resource Management, Reginald Austrie, is now a patient at the Princess Margaret Hospital, after sustaining a gunshot wound to her chest.
According to Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Acting Inspector Pellam Jno Baptiste, about 8:30pm on Friday, March 18, 2016, Austrie left her business place in Portsmouth in the company of two relatives. Jno Baptiste said it is alleged that “Anita Austrie was attacked by two individuals wearing masks and armed with a pistol, while walking to her residence. The attempt to rob her was unsuccessful, but she was shot in her chest by one of her attackers before they both fled the scene”. Mr Jno Baptiste said Austrie was first taken to the Reginald Fitzgerald Armour Hospital in Portsmouth, where she was seen by a medical doctor, before being transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) in Roseau. Mr Jno Baptiste says the scene was processed by the Crime Scenes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department. No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
