Five senior 4-H clubs will host the 8th annual 4-H Local Dinner Plate Competition this Saturday at the Dominica Grammar School.
The competition is being organized by the Youth Development Division. According to a release, the Goodwill Secondary School, St. Mary's Academy, Castle Bruce Secondary, Pierre Charles secondary and the North East Comprehensive were selected from last week's zonal competitions. This year's competition is said to involve the preparation of fish dishes and an accompaniment utilizing some of the focus foods of the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM). The crops are banana, plantain, pineapple, cocoa, citrus and small ruminants. According to organizers, this competition is aimed at developing the culinary art skills of the youth and promoting the local food items for sustainability and economic enrichment. The first prize winners will represent Dominica at the annual Caribbean Junior Culinary conference and the Caribbean Junior Duelling challenge to be held in Barbados in August. Meanwhile, at the awards ceremony, the recipe book 'A Taste of 4-H-A Dominica Experience', comprising dinner plate recipes which have been tried and tested will be launched. A special award for 'Dr. Liverpool's choice' will also be presented to the club with the tastiest dish.
