Antilles Episcopal Conference Bishops have taken a stand against Capital Punishment urging Governments and citizens in the region to work towards the abolition of the death penalty.
While the rate of violent crimes have risen in the region, standing on biblical principles, the church is of the view that human life is a gift from God and is sacred therefore it is necessary to protect and defend human life at all stages of development and in all circumstances. One spokesperson for the AEC Bishops encourages Governments to amend their legislation to remove the mandatory imposition of the death penalty and focus on a restorative approach, holding the offender accountable in a more meaningful way while helping to achieve a sense of healing for both the victim(s) and the community.
