After much speculation over the Gene Pestaina pension matter, Government addressed the issue today, stating that Mr Pestaina is not entitled to the pension for which he is claiming that he is entitled.
Gene Pestaina, a distinguished Police Officer and Attorney, who served for over 38 years in the public service and law enforcement, is now critically ill and battling for his life. Over the past weeks, there have been numerous pleas to the Government from different factions in society, to grant Mr Pestaina whatever pension was legally due to him. Attorney General, Levi Peter, now says the Government is sympathetic to the former Director of Public Prosecution’s plight, but Mr. Pestaina is not entitled to a pension of the nature which he seems to believe that he is entitled. However, he says the government is willing to settle his medical cost, should he be desirous of, and apply for this assistance.
