Agriculture Ministry PS expresses concern about the manner in which Dominica’s farmers use their lands in the 21st Century
In a related story, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Harold Guiste is expressing concern about the use of land owned by Agriculture entrepreneurs in the 21st century in Dominica. Mr. Guiste is calling on all farmers in Dominica to develop an open mind to receiving training & education in Agriculture, including Education on proper land use as a farmer.
Guiste says although it is incumbent or imperative on the Agriculture Ministry to peruse how marketing & trade is done generally, he says Farmers in Dominica must be educated on meeting all the requirements for export of goods regionally and internationally, as this is serious business. Meanwhile, Former President of Dominica & incumbent Consultant for the Agricultural Policy & Action Plan Eliud Williams contends that everyone in Dominica must change their mind-set, as it relates to agriculture in Dominica, and to strictly view agriculture as a business.
The Former President, went on to list 6 policies that are being perused or reviewed by Agriculture Officials in the Ministry of Agriculture and said that when these policies take full effect it will aid significantly in poverty reduction throughout Dominica.
Meantime, Dominica’s Director of Agriculture Ricky Brumant is now attempting to make a case, that Agriculture is everyone’s business.
