Annual Old Mas & Sensay Festival to hit Castle Bruce road on Tuesday 2nd February 2016, from 7:00 pm1/25/2016 The Annual Old Mas and Sensay Festival will hit the road in Castle Bruce on Tuesday 2nd February 2016 from 7:00 pm. The National Cultural Council and the Division of Culture in collaboration with the Castle Bruce Village Council are hosting the event. The festival will feature a variety of traditional carnival bands including Sense’, ban move’, stilt walkers and lapo Kabwit.
The bands include Sensay Masters of Grand Bay, Mahaut Sensay, Sen Jo Sensay, Colihaut Bann Move, La Plaine Bann Move, Delices Ole Mas Group, Afrikulture Stilt Walkers, Sinekou Lapo Kabwit and Costume Group, Black Devils of Good Hope, Wills Strathmore Primary School, Sugar Fire, Gutter Lapo Kabwit, Mahaut Bouyon Lapo Kabwit and Neg Mawon Carnival Band from Castle Bruce. The festival program includes a parade of bands, an official welcome ceremony and stage performances. The various bands will gather at the Castle Playing Field junction and from 7.00 p.m. They will parade along the main road leading to the Castle Bruce village centre. On arrival at the village centre, there will be an official welcome ceremony to include remarks by Honourable Johnson Drigo, MP for Castle Bruce, Angelica Gasper Chairperson of the Castle Bruce Village Council and Jacinta David, Chief Cultural Officer. The bands will then perform on the main stage. The Festival is hosted in a different community each year in order to expose the host community to diverse carnival traditions, bands and costumes from around Dominica. The Festival is also intended to revive and strengthen traditional carnival bands in the host community.
