The Ministry for Public Works and the Digital Economy claims it has recorded significant progress over the past six months in the implementation of the Layou rehabilitation and reconstruction project. That’s according to Senator Cassanni Laville, Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy.He reports that two of the three components of the project have been completed. Laville says the Ministry is focused on the implementation of the third component, which is the reconstruction of four km of roadway between the Hillsborough Bridge and the Yorke Valley Bridge. This component has been separated into two phases. The senator says the contract for phase 1 has been tendered by the Ministry for Public Works and the Digital Economy and bids were returned on January 15, 2021. Financial Crime Consultant Kenneth Rijock stated on Q95 Thursday, Dominica’s reputation may again get tainted in allegations of criminal connections to underground money laundering schemes. Mr. Rijok’s said his investigations into Malta’s Money laundering criminal community, revealed a lot of ties directly linked to Dominica, and are presently being investigated by the US. Mr Rayburn Blackmoore, Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, stated on Wednesday, that the E-Litigation portal, a new filing system commenced in 2018 by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, will transform the way litigation is handled in the Caribbean. Blackmore reported that the cabinet has approved the necessary amendments to the Court of Justice Act in order to ensure that the portal can be implemented in the country. MP for the Roseau North District Daniel “Danny” Lugay is condemning the brutal murder of 30-year-old Tricia Wiltshire of Castle Bruce who resided at Stock Farm.
Daniel Lugay told media in a statement, that the causes of these senseless murders can be blamed on the significant deterioration in family values, the grave unethical National Governance practices, massive unemployment and underemployment among our Nation’s youth, the disappearance of Youth and Sports Clubs as well as the absence of proper playing fields for the practicing and playing of sports by the youth in Dominica generally and in the Roseau North Constituency. Lugay is calling for a reversal of these unhealthy societal trends, “A reversal of these exceedingly worrisome trends is needed urgently if we are to stem the tide of despondency that now grips our Nation’s youth. Executive member of the Westly Development Organization (WDO) and former military aviation personnel Dr Mc Donald Thomas shares insights on airport functionality, and key elements of expanse and growth. Dr. Thomas says our perception of airports and international airports is limited in Dominica, as we are subject to the image of just a runway and a terminal. He added that airports are industries and infrastructures that are designed for growth, but this proposed international airport shows no signs of expansion, especially being in the center a community. Much of the passport selling in the country is not done by process of parliament, but rather it is just one man calling the shots as it suits him, and using social media as his medium to address people after the fact. That’s according to Former Magistrate Attorney at Law Tiyanni Behanzin. Speaking to Q95 earlier today Behanzin sought to bring light to the untruths being perpetuated by the present DLP administration, and to reveal what he calls some of the hidden agendas. Behanzin says conversations about airports in Dominica have been taking place for over 50 years, and the saga still continues. He says it is about time we approach this thing with some sense.
