In his presentation as a guest on Q95’s Global view on Q Program hosted by Sheridan Gregoire (Mr. G) recently, Auto Mechanic, Emerson Marcus Rossi took issue with a recent announcement by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who had stated that his government was now preparing to have Geotechnical studies and Environmental Impact done for the DLP Government’s proposed international Airport in the Wesley area, after having acquired large amounts of property owned by the residents in the that community. However, many professionals publicly voiced their concerns, warning the Prime Minister to approach the Airport project in a more professional, inclusive and orderly fashion, as all necessary studies should have been done before displacing the residents of the Wesley area. The question being asked is, what if the studies determine that the lands that have been acquired are not suitable for the proposed airport? National Security & Home Affairs Minister Rayburn Blackmoore says Dominica is making strides towards the implementation of an E-filing system within the Judicial structure. The Eastern Caribbean Court commenced implementation of a new E-filing system, called the E-litigation portal in 2018.National Security Minister Rayburne Blackmore says this portal will transform the way that litigation is handled in the Caribbean, and will take Dominica to a new frontier in dealing with cases before the court. Blackmoore says this new amendment is not the only step government has taken to ensure the modernization of payment methods in Dominica. He says three pieces of legislation were passed in 2018 to this end. Namely the Bankruptcy Fees Amendment Rules SRO 39 of 2018, the High Court Proceeding Fees Rules SRO 4 of 2018, and the Court of Appeal Proceeding Fees SRO 40 of 2018. Co-Founder of the Waitukubuli Advocates for a Viable environment (WAVE), Fr Franklyn Cuffy, says his interim Board is disturbed by the lack of a chairperson for the Layou Improvement Committee, becauseonce this role remains unfilled, that committee remains dysfunctional.
