The Dominica Cycling Association (DCA)congratulates youth of the soil Kohath Baron who emerged winner of the Antiguan Cycling invitational. Public Relations Officer for the Dominica Water and Sewage Company Limited (DOWASCO) Kimani St. Jean listed the various competitions and activities that were included in the observance of World Water Day 2022 and DOWASCO Water Week 2022. Speaking on Q95’s ‘Talk on the Block’ Program on Friday afternoon, Mrs. Mignon Rolle-Shillingford said, we dare not go back to strict measures and curfews, but what the Health Promotion Unit wants to happen is for the public to adhere to, and understand that there are some protocols now that have to be continued, and every time the public lets their guard down, there will be an increase in active cases. She added that many individuals who were admitted to the quarantine facility suffered for weeks. Speaking on the ‘Talk on the Block’ Program on Friday afternoon, District Medical Officer for the Roseau District, Dr. Lynora Fevrier Drigo said individuals should start testing from home which can be done by purchasing home kits which are sold at the various pharmacies, and what would be required from those testing themselves from home, is that if you test positive, report yourself to the health authorities. Dr. Fevrier said in reference to testing, Individuals who are symptomatic can get tested at their Health Centers, and individuals who have appointments at the hospital can also get tested at local health centers. Local Government Commissioner Glenroy Toussaint reveals there is an increase in capacity in emergency shelters on the island. His statement came after data revealed that over 3,000 persons may become needy during this year’s Atlantic Hurricane Season; a number in which Dominica’s shelter capacity will be able to accommodate. This he says will aid in the easing of the burden on currently existing shelters such as the schools, and health centers, as capacity is no longer an issue. Dominica is set to introduce the ‘Virtual Asset Business Bill in Parliament today. That’s according to Minister of Finance and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who revealed that the bill is aimed at providing the registration and supervision of Virtual Asset businesses, and will be overseen by the Financial Intelligence Unit. This legislation emanated from the Monetary Counsel and the Central Bank, and Dominicans are encouraged to position themselves to take advantage of the opportunities. Dominica is participating in the Concacaf Nations league this week, the Dominica Football association is seeking your support with the dissemination of the information and promotion of the event. Dominica has been placed in Group C of League C of the Concacaf Nations League. The National Team will face Anguilla on June 2nd in Anguilla, with the return leg on June 5thin St Kitts. Prime Minister Skerrit claims one of the very important aspects of Baroness Patricia Scotland's work has been to get the private sector engaged with the public sector, by way of investments. Governance Minister Gretta Roberts says for the public service, strengthened institutional systems are particularly significant. A Development Management program was launched at the UWI open Campus on Friday morning. She says it is part of an overall public sector transformation strategy which seeks to chart a way forward for the change in management within the public service by 2030. 50 senior level managers in the service are expected to benefit. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says Dominicans must prepare for the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane season with the notion that we can be hit at any time, before, during and even after the hurricane season. The NOAA has predicted an above normal Atlantic Hurricane Season which begins. The season runs June 1st to November 30th.
